Health Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Positive Effects

For those looking to improve the way they look and feel, the health benefits of intermittent fasting offer an enticing alternative to traditional diets. Aside from the obvious weight loss and fat reduction, intermittent fasting has been shown to produce a number of positive effects to both the body and brain. Here are some of the more surprising health benefits of intermittent fasting.

Improve Cognitive Functioning

Not feeling as mentally sharp as you did in your younger years? Intermittent fasting is one option for reducing calories, which has been shown to help improve focus, clarity and memory. One study of women over the age of 50 revealed that three months of significant caloric restriction improved memory.

Enhance Cellular Functioning

Certainly one of the most impactful health benefits of intermittent fasting is the ability to initiate cellular repair within the body. By severely restricting calories for a certain duration of time, the process known as autophagy—the clean-up and removal of damaged cells—is able to commence. However, to initiate and experience the effects of stem cell-based regeneration, a prolonged fast (extending beyond 2 days) is required. A fasting program like the Fasting Mimicking Diet® is the ideal way to promote cellular renewal and the health benefits that come with it, since it puts your body in a fasting state for 5 consecutive days while at the same time allowing you to enjoy real food every day.
